Angel Rodriguez gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN (by Hoops Agents)- May 2, 2022
The 29-year old playmaker had the game-high 21 points adding seven rebounds and nine assists for Bayamon in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Mayaguez (#6, 2-7) with 44-point margin 98-54. Bayamon maintains the 2nd position in their group in Puerto Rican BSN. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Bayamon will need more victories to improve their 5-2 record. In the team's last game Rodriguez had a remarkable 72.7% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Bayamon, being already a very valuable addition to the team. University of Miami graduate has very impressive stats this year. Rodriguez is in league's top in assists (2nd best: 8.0apg) and averages solid 60.7% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was young American guard Terrico White (196-G-1990) of Guayama. White impressed basketball fans with 36 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Guayama was edged by slightly lower-ranked Mayaguez (#6, 2-7) 91-89. Guayama managed to keep the same 5th spot in Group A. 5 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Guayama managed to get this year. White is one of the most experienced players at Guayama and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.9ppg (#1). His other stats are also decent: 5.6rpg and 3.3apg. The third best performed player last week was American Davon Jefferson (203-F-1986) of top-ranked Fajardo. Jefferson scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Jefferson's great performance Fajardo lost 82-105 to #3 ranked Guaynabo. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Fajardo needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in Group B. Their record is 5 victories and 2 lost games. Jefferson has a great season in Puerto Rico. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.0ppg (3rd best) and rebounds with 8.6rpg (8th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Christopher Ortiz (203-PF-1993) of Guayama - 24 points and 7 rebounds 5. Dwight Buycks (191-PG-1989) of Mayaguez - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists 6. Melsahn Basabe (201-PF-1992) of Mayaguez - 17 points and 13 rebounds 7. Dewan Hernandez (211-C/F-1997) of Bayamon - 15 points and 15 rebounds 8. Ben McCauley (206-F/C-1986) of Guayama - 16 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists 9. Marvin Jones (213-C-1993) of Ponce - 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Kyle Vinales (188-G-1992) of Guaynabo - 34 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
